checking paper lists. This approach offers

of manually data transfer between one or
more systems and the involved employee.

generating the inventory report can be
easily manipulated. It is very hard to track

company or not once the employee has
manually confirmed the asset on the paper
or electronically list.

An RFID based Asset Management solution
which prevents media disruptions and
directly uses asset data from Enterprise
Systems. Inventory personal can work completely
offline from network and IT systems
by data download to mobile RFID devices.
Data up- and download is done, when a connection
to the network is possible. Presence
of assets cannot be manipulated because
RFID transponders have to be read. In case
of asset or transponder drop the employee
can set related status.

The solution must be compliant to worldwide standards and regulatory of RFID.
Because of the broad spectrum of assets the
selection of best fitting RFID transponders
supporting UHF technology is very important.
Especially very hard environmental
influences (winter and summer conditions,
oil, road salt, UV light, etc.) as well as different
base materials have to be considered.

Solution Overview
A user and role based client/server application
handles all necessary information. The
mobile application uses asset and company
data (location and room plans, user information,
etc.) directly from Enterprise
System for handling RFID transponder issuing
and inventory process. Next to assets
even locations and rooms are marked using
RFID transponders for data preparation
and therefore more usability. The aim was
to make no user input except reading RFID
transponders necessary.
