Technical Design
There are no set, standard configurations for RFID systems. Every RFID solution requires a specific configuration of hardware & software components. Performance and functionality are determined by applying the most effective RFID components and making sure it all works together in an optimal manner.

Technology Evaluation: Selection of the most suitable reader, antennas, tags, standards.
System Architecture: Conception of an overall architecture ranging from tag-read-event and device- and network-management to back-end-integration:

    - with optimized network traffic
    - with minimized operating effort
    - which is flexible, scalable and future proof

Data model, Specification: Specification of data model (data on tag / data on network), of user applications and interfaces.

"Don't allow RFID implementations to become islands of technology and information." AberdeenGroup, 2005

Guidelines for the implementation of an RFID system architecture

  • Selection of a SOA-based platform (Service Oriented Architecture)

  • Selection of an RFID-technology, which allows flexible adaptations to future requirements

  • RFID-software with certified standardized interfaces ensures intercompany interoperability

  • A global RFID-standard compliant technology guarantees the highest investment protection in case of future product modifications

  • An RFID-middleware abstracts the physical layer (RFID–technology) from the logical layer (ERP system). Therefore, processes and data structure do not need to be changed if infrastructural changes happen (fast moving RFID technology).

  • Simplification of configuration and management of RFID components

  • Optimization of network traffic by applying traffic minimizing techniques
